National Online School for SEND learners Outperforms the National Average

TCES National Online School (NOS), our specialist online school for SEND learners, is celebrating a 78% pass rate in their student’s GCSE results, outperforming the national average of 67.4%.

NOS, which was the first DFE accredited specialist online school, offers a full curriculum delivered through therapeutic education and support to children and young people aged 9 to 25, who are unable to access education within an onsite school setting.

Over 39% of our student’s achieved Grade 8 or higher, against the national average of 22%. GCSE pass Grades 4 and above were achieved across English (Literature and Language), Maths, History, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. 100% of students entered for functional skills achieved at least one pass grade.

Giulio, who joined NOS at the end of year 10, received his results achieving five Grade 9s and a Grade 8 in his GCSEs. Before joining NOS he was unable to attend school. He committed himself to online learning, working hard in all lessons and attending revision sessions that were delivered outside of school hours. He was also working as a waiter to earn money while he was undertaking his GCSEs.

Giulio said: “These results were only possible due to the excellent teachers at TCES and my hard work and dedication to studying. At NOS I was doing five lessons a day supported by excellent teachers. They gave me a lot of encouragement, motivation and kept reassuring me that I could get the grades I needed to go on to do A Levels. I took my exams from home in my kitchen, supervised by a wonderful lady who made sure everything was done under exam rules.”

“I would like to add a big thank you to all the teachers who helped me. I feel very excited and very pleased with my results. Next I am going on to a sixth form college to do A Levels and I will be taking Biology, Maths and Physics and hopefully university after that.”

Kirsten Roy, Headteacher of TCES National Online School commented: “We are so very proud of each and everyone of our students at NOS. All of our students are SEND learners who have social, emotional, and mental health needs. Many have been excluded numerous times from mainstream schools before they come to us. These amazing results show what can be achieved when the right support is put in place. It also shows very clearly that specialist online schools like NOS have a key role to play in offering SEND children inclusive education where they can thrive and reach their full potential.”
