MEET Roman

  • Roman was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Autism.
  • Roman had experienced multiple exclusions and breakdowns in his educational placements, leading to the risk that he could no longer be educated in-person.
  • He was subsequently educated at home by a tutor as no school could meet the needs outlined in his Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • This home placement also broke down after a physical assault on his tutor.
September 2022 – Roman joins TCES National Online School
  • The TCES Therapeutic approach recognises that students require more than academic input alone.
  • Roman began by working online with a single teacher and engaged intensively each week with a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • His tutor identified that Roman had developed excellent work avoidance tactics to avoid "looking stupid."
  • By working with an experienced SEN Primary teacher, Roman began to show improvement in his reading and comprehension.
  • His engagement also improved throughout his placement with TCES National Online School.
Progression
  • During his placement with TCES National Online School, Roman grew in confidence and independence.
  • He was gradually introduced to more tutors, which has been vital for his future development.
  • In February, approximately six months after joining TCES National Online School, Roman successfully re-integrated into a mainstream primary school.
  • In September, one year after joining TCES, Roman begun education at a Year 7 mainstream placement.
Being a parent of a SEND child has meant we have had to fight for our son’s education from the very start. The National Online School has supported our son like no school before and honestly, I wish we knew about NOS earlier.
