MEET Harry

Before Joining National Online School
  • Harry was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and experienced severe anxiety, alongside significant social, emotional and mental health challenges.
  • His anxiety became so overwhelming that by late 2022, he was no longer able to attend school.
  • Despite a range of support in his previous school, including one-to-one support, adapted timetables and alternative learning spaces, Harry continued to struggle.
  • Everyday school life often left him feeling overwhelmed, leading to school refusal, emotional distress and difficulties managing his emotions.
  • He also faced challenges with social communication, sensory sensitivities and independence, making it difficult to feel safe and comfortable in a traditional school environment.

Progression
  • Harry's attendance has grown from 15.13% in Spring 2025 to 36.80% in Summer 2025, reaching an impressive 69.94% by Spring 2026.
  • He is described by his teachers as engaged, thoughtful, humorous and increasingly confident, contributing more in lessons every term.
  • Harry has made excellent academic progress, achieving strong results in Science, producing high-quality work in English and thriving in creative subjects and project-based learning.
  • He has gained AQA Unit Awards and continues to demonstrate impressive creativity, curiosity and analytical thinking.
  • Having successfully completed the RISE therapeutic programme, Harry is now confidently attending one-to-one sessions and is even beginning to explore using his microphone in lessons, something that once felt unimaginable.
