MEET Erin

Before Joining National Online School
  • Erin was diagnosed with Autism and struggled with high anxiety.
  • Erin attended mainstream school part-time due to her anxiety, with one-to-one support outside the classroom.
  • She experienced severe bullying, leading to stress, flashbacks, and nightmares, which eventually led her parents electing to home educate her.
  • Erin struggled with verbal communication when anxious, often resorting to headbanging or screaming and required supervision to prevent self-injurious behaviour.
  • She had social communication difficulties, making it hard to form friendships and was sensitive to sensory overload, which causes dysregulated behaviour.
September 2024 – Erin joins TCES National Online School
  • Erin participated in our RISE Psychoeducation Programme which helped her develop self-awareness, emotional literacy, resilience and interpersonal skills. Her dad is really proud of her for opening up about past school experiences, encouraged by the program.
  • A bespoke timetable was created to help Erin build a relationship with a trusted pastoral mentor.
  • TCES NOS supports Erin’s dad in providing a physical activity day outside the house on Fridays, helping to support her social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as her regulation. Erin often speaks about her Friday adventures within the class.
Progression
  • Erin feels safe and comfortable learning from home, appreciating the opportunity to engage with teachers and other students.
  • The teachers are supportive, treating Erin with kindness, patience and understanding. This helps her flourish in her learning with recent school reports showing Erin achieved top ratings in most subjects.
  • Erin is now engaging in groups with peers her own age, something she was unable to do at her previous school. She has also shown bravery by sharing her personal struggles and using examples from her experiences to contribute to lesson discussions.
Erin often highlights that TCES is the best school ever and that she feels supported by her teachers. Because of that she is able to take on complex tasks, for example from Maths or Science. It’s wonderful to see Erin to thrive academically and to develop personally. As parents we are deeply grateful to TCES for all their support provided. TCES National Online School appears to be the perfect solution for Erin. From the very beginning Erin appears to like the school. This is thanks to amazing, highly professional staff who deliver the learning, paired with a therapeutic element.”
