We’re delighted to share some exciting news: the National Online School has been chosen as one of the new partners for a Remote Invigilation pilot taking place in summer 2026.
This is a major step forward in making exams more accessible for all students especially those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Remote invigilation will allow students to sit their exams online from their own familiar environment, rather than having to travel to and adapt to a traditional exam hall or new setting.
For many of our students, this approach can be transformative. Large exam halls and unfamiliar surroundings can create unnecessary challenges. Noise, lighting, busy rooms and many people can create sensory distractions and increase anxiety making it harder for our students to perform at their best. By taking exams in a familiar space, students can stay calm and focused, giving them the best possible chance to show what they have learned.
Furthermore, remote invigilation also makes it easier to provide the personalised adjustments some students rely on every day, such as extra time, the use of assistive technology or tailored seating and lighting arrangements. Instead of having to replicate these adjustments in an unfamiliar venue, students can access them within an environment they already know works for them.
“This is exactly the kind of development we’ve been advocating for. It’s fantastic to see this model being backed by Pearson, as it will give our students a more accessible and less stressful exam experience.” – Director of Education, Gerard Strong.
This partnership represents an important step in our mission to break down barriers to both learning and assessment. By meeting students where they are and creating flexible, inclusive opportunities, we can help every student, whatever their needs, to thrive and succeed.
